This is the Engineering and Event Blog that is maintained by the team. After each meeting one or more of the team members writes up what we did and what they enjoyed obout the meetings.

The First Meeting Of The Season

Today was our first meeting of the season. The first thing we did was watch a demonstration of last year's challenges. Then we got to work, destroying the old robots and sorting all the pieces. After that, we did some team building activities. Then we had a building challenge: to build a bridge that could span the distance between two tables and hold a certain amount of weight. And do it in 8 minutes. I was really pressed  for time and a didn't do a very good job, so mine bridge collapsed, but some of the bridges were really cool!

First Meeting

On Monday, all of the new team members came and we started off the day with a demonstration of the robot from last year, and talked about the different arms, and why we used them.  After that, we took the previous map apart, and the robot and all the arms.  I would have to say I was pretty sad to see all the months of work, being taken apart and put away.  After that, we took a short break, ran around outside, then came back in and did a few teamwork challenges, which were fun!!!!  We ended with the legendary bridge, where you have 8 minutes to build a bridge from one table to the other (about 2 ft.) able to hold a certain amount of weight.  I had a lot of fun!!  And, I think this year is going to be a good one!

Our First Meeting

At our first meeting we watched last years robot perform a few missions before we took it apart and sorted the pieces. Then we did some team building challenges and took a break. Then we did another team building challenge and had a bridge building contest. I'd say we're off to a good start on the year.

The Lego Guards first meeting

Today was our first meeting. It was lots of fun. First, we saw a demonstration of the robot. Then we did a challenge called the helium stick. Then we took apart all the stuff. I had fun and learned some new things. Then we did another team challenge called the Number Game. Finally we built bridges in 8 minutes, and they had to be able to hold a robot brain in the middle across two tables. Overall, this meeting really has made me feel very excited about the season.

Aydan's frst day on the Team

Lego meeting numer one.  I met every one, then we took apart the old robot and the items.  Later we built a bridge and it looked cool.

Our Second Meeting

Today was our second meeting. We built all the stuff for the table and guessed where it belonged. During our break we learned a game called double -jump. it was really fun. Then Karl showed us how to build a basic robot and Alan showed us the basics of programming with a touch sensor. I learned a lot and had fun too!

Lego Guards meeting number two

We learned hot to program things, you know, program our robots.  Everyone built a robot that drives.  Mine has three wheels, 2 big wheels and 1 small wheel.  I programmed it with the laptop and it had a touch sensor, so when it drove forward, if it hit a wall or something, it would stop.  We also got our new map and built everything.

Our Second Meeting

At this meeting we had a lot of fun. First we built the parts for the mat and then had lunch and learned a fun game called double jump. Then Karl showed us how to make simple robots and we learned how to program them. Then we did a fun team challenge where you have string between the arms of several people and then you try and tie a knot in one of the strings without letting go of the other strings. It was hard. This was a very fun meeting.

Today's Meeting

Today, we started off the day with a round table, discussing the coming year and what our goals are.  Then we split up into groups, with two learning programming, and the rest starting to build arms for the table.  So far, we have come up with possibilitys for the polar bear, the ice core sample, and still working on an arm to move the balls.  After lunch, me and Aydan learned how to program, and built a quick program and tested it.  After that, we finished up building arms, then we did a teamwork challenge.  Another great day!!

Meeting Number Three

Today we had our third Lego Guards meeting! We had some round table time, where we took turns saying positive things about our team. Every one was very excited about how well we worked together and about the diversity of our talents. Then Alan took Drew and Bobby (who is a possible team member at this point) aside to go in-depth on programing. While they did that , the rest of us built arms to attach onto the robot to complete the different challenges. Then it was Andrew's and my turn to do programing with Alan. We created a program called WALL-E which we downloaded onto our robot which is also named WALL-E. Then we took a break, had lunch, and played Double-Jump. After that, we had to do a teamwork challenge. In 5 minutes we had to build something related to the climate topic while all the team members could put one piece on .Then , Alan worked with Al and Aydan on programming while Andrew and I gave WALL-E a make-over. We took it all the way apart and put it back together a different way, with help and tips from Alan.
