This is the Engineering and Event Blog that is maintained by the team. After each meeting one or more of the team members writes up what we did and what they enjoyed obout the meetings.

Monday's meeting!

On monday, we started the day with talking about our trip to DRI a bit, then we started discussing the presentation ideas.  We talked with Alan about ways we can put up our cameras and the power, range, cost, placement would come out to be.  After lunch me and Bobby started on programming, and learned about variabals and made a calibration program.  Aydan and Andrew "cloned" our robot and made some small adjustments.

Last meeting for September 2008

We talked about climate, our cool trip to the Weather Station and we all played double jump. Andrew and I built a robot with cool arms that takes the co2 balls and puts them in the c02 chamber, it is so cool!!! I have become the official Arm Builder for our team, and I am excited about that.

Monday meeting

Today, we worked on presentation ideas until lunch, discussing all the things we would have to do, and starting to figure out what we are doing for our presentation out line.  After lunch (and 3 double jump games) We came back in and started on building/programming, working on the CO2 mission and the ice core sample mission.

The Tenth Meeting

Today was another Lego Guards meeting. We started our meeting with Round Table, like always. Then Al, Bobby, and Aydan told Drew and I what had happened during our absence. We were filled in on the trip to DRI and about the Ethernet radio connection, streetlamp poles to mount the cameras on,the rotating camera, and our solution's name: Forest Guard. WOW! You guys were busy! Then we wrote an outline for our presentation. It will be in the form of a newscast and I am going to be the host for "Climate Today". After lunch , Alan helped me with programming. I am doing the Ice Core Sample and the Drilling Rig . COOL!

Monday Meeting

On monday we started with a round table, and filled in Faith and Drew about the project stuff.  After that we got a pretty good overview down of out presentation, and started on our scripts.  After lunch, when Alan and Karl got there, we split up again, me Bobby and Aydan were working on building a "jig" for the house, so we could elavate it succesfully.  We got the arm built, but still need the program for it.  Meanwhile, Faith worked on her program for the ice core sample.  Andrew and Drew worked on a program for the bicycle, insulation, and computer.

Meeting # 11 ( I think!)

Today was our 11th meeting. We started with some round table, then moved on to writing the presentation script. As the host, I have the most lines, but I also am allowed to have my " notes" ( the script) in front of me, just like a real news anchor. Pretty darn cool, huh.  So then we booted up the computers and got everything ready for the arrival of Alan and Karl. Then, we had lunch and goofed off until they arrived, then we went back inside and I started programming. I started the Ice Core Sample program last week, so this week I finished it and labeled it. The labelling is to make it easier for us to remember exactly what happens during the program, so we can explain it to the judges and get a good score. Anyway, the program is super- cool( that's MY opinion and I know Aydan agrees) and it is really reliable as long as it has the correct amount of battery power. It worked perfectly 5 out of 5 times! What a great meeting!

Our Eleventh Meeting

Today was our eleventh meeting. First we thought of our script. Then we ate lunch and played double jump. Then we came inside and started programing,I almost finished a mission. Then we all explained the missions to Aydan's parents. Then we cleaned up and went home.

Monday's Meeting

On Monday October 13, we had another great meeting. First we worked on our presentation script and then Drew and I worked on programing Evo 1 to collect and deliver the bicycle and other objects to the house. We are doing well. I am proud to be in Lego Guards!

Monday's meeting

On Monday, we started the day off with presentation, as usual, and rehersed our presentation 3 times, talking about it and how we could make it better.  Then for about a hour, we worked on our subjects, I was drawing a mock up of what our inovative soloution would look like.  After lunch, we worked on the robot and arms again.  We took apart one of our robots, and started on a new one.

The Meeting (number 12)

The really, really frustrating 12th meeting went like this. All was fine and great to start. We had our round table and discussed our research. Then we ran through our presentation a couple of times. It was looking really great! Then we were dispatched to do our own things. I worked on drawing the Forest Guard brochure and Andrew did a great job on the logo. After that, we went outside for lunch. After lunch was when it got really crazy. When I went to work on my really cool program, it was totally wacko! Alan was away, so Karl had to help me. He's really smart at that kind of thing, but he's not very sympathetic. So my program is really messed up. :( :( :( :(
