This is the Engineering and Event Blog that is maintained by the team. After each meeting one or more of the team members writes up what we did and what they enjoyed obout the meetings.

The Meeting

Today's meeting was pretty ordinary. We split up into three table teams and did table runs all day long. Bobby and I worked together. One of the reasons we did so much table was because Andrew was not there. But we really improved on table so that was good. Nice job team!

Team Meets Tahoe National Forest Expert

Today's meeting started pretty normally. We worked on the table, and did some runs. Then Mr. Gary Fildes came and we did our presentation for him. He works as a Tahoe National Forester, so he knows a lot about the forest. After our presentation, he helped us mark spots on a map that we could use to put our cameras on. He was very knowledgeable and very nice. Thank you Gary!!

After Gary left, we did some more table runs, and did a fun team challenge. Alan also taught us how to leg wrestle :).

Mondays Meeting

This Monday an expert from the Tahoe National Forest came up and watched our presentation. He seemed very interested in our idea. We figured out where our camera poles would probaably be, taking into consideration everything, especially ridges and peaks. It really helped to have someone so knowledgable in this field to help us. We also did several table runs, and Drew and I are improving our score.

Friday meeting/radio

We had a meeting friday, where we started with doing the presentation, and we went through it great!  After that, we started on the table runs.  With two of our three teams getting 355, I think we did pretty well!!

After the meeting we went to the radio, we designated Faith the main spokeswoman, who sat in the hot seat with the interviewer.  We only had 10 minutes of air time, but we got out what we needed!

Friday Meeting and KAHI

We had a nice meeting on Friday. We did our presentation and lots of table runs. The Red Team, which is Bobby and I got a 355 on the table two times in a row!!! Then, we went to KAHI for an interview on the radio. I had fun being the spokesperson. We got out information about FLL and FIRST as well as a bit about our team. Thank you KAHI!

Friday's Meeting and Kahi

Fridays meeting was very fun. Both Faith and Bobby, Al and Aydan got a 355. It was awesome Drew and I got a 335. We were having lots of fun. Then we drove over to Kahi, the radio station in Auburn. We got to talk about what we do and we got a chance to spread the word about FLL and FIRST. It was very neat.

Mondays meeting

Today we are getting for state competition by doing lots and lots of table runs. We will probably do a round table and that's all I know were doing right know.

The Monday meeting

Today we worked on all aspects of the competition. We started with table and did a whole bunch of runs. Bobby and I did pretty well(consistently over 300) but we didn't get any thing super high. But, Andrew and Drew got a 360!!! A 360! That is as high as it is possible for us to get!(since we never have time to do the arrows.) Anyway, after that we took a break and had lunch. Then we did our presentation and practiced setup and questions. Then we did Teamwork and Engineering. Alan was very impressed with the way we explained our programs. A very excellent meeting!

The last meeting before the State Competition

Today was our last meeting before State. We did Presentation first, then worked on our Teamwork judging. Everyone was rusty, but we are optimistic. Then, we spread FLL by inviting a class in to our practice. They were very excited about our Robot. (EVO 5.5) After they left, we discovered that one of our robot's motors was broken!! Two days before State! Anyway, our trusty builder Aydan(with help from our mentor Alan) soon had EVO 5.5 in working condition. Then we did some more table runs. I think we're ready for State!

State Competition

Sunday was State competition, and tons of fun. I was the first kid to arrive at the building. When everyone was here we sat together for the opening ceremonies after setting our pits up. We waited for a few hours and then went to presentation, engineering, and teamwork in rapid succession. We were also interviewed and received beautiful FLL medals. Then we had lunch, fabulous Subway sandwiches (sorry about product placement!). After lunch we could practice the table runs. Suddenly two of our few missions started to mess up. Luckily we fixed them in time. Still our first table run with me as housekeeper got just 175 points. Our next table run did slightly better, with a 190. Our last table run did lots better, a 315, enough to get us second place robot performance award. When we did the alliance rounds, both our missions failed, sadly. After helping clean up we went in for the awards ceremony. We got second place robot performance, wackiest attachment award, and first place presentation. It was so exciting! Also our mentor, Alan Levezu, got the mentor of the year award. State competition was so much fun!
