Our CAL Fire trip was really cool. When we got there, we told the firefighters about our "Forest Guard" solution. They really liked it! Their idea wasn't to put cameras in WUI areas like we expected. They thought that putting cameras in the wilderness would be great. The firefighters said that if a fire started in a WUI area they would be notified right away. But if it started in the wilderness, they might not get a call untill it was too big to control right away. After we talked for a few minutes, the firefighters showed us where they live and eat. Then we met some CALSTAR nurses, and they showed us the helicoptor. Heidi took lots of pictures of us in the helicoptor. Then we went to look at the fire engine. But on our way to the shed, our friends had to leave! They were called to a car crash on Highway 49. It was a great trip! Thank you CAL Fire!

do you remember...

Heidi's picture

...they said that in the wilderness a fire could burn for several days (or longer) before someone spotted it!!

Also, there are a lot of potential cuts underway for Cal Fire.... the station where we visited is one slated for possible closure!! Wow. That would be scary.
